Fire in the sky
London has the most consistently polluted air in the country, if not the entire continent. This is by virtue of our location downwind from a whole lot of nasty industry, as well as the geographic quirks of our land that conspire to trap the same dirty air in a never-ending soup of smog from spring to autumn - and beyond.
But it makes for nice sunsets, dontcha think? Everything has an upside, apparently.

I wouldn't want to breathe that air was my second thought.THen the third was, how beautiful that sky is.. I think you should consider movnig away !!!!

Yep, forest fire. Here in BC it was quite a common site last year. Scary, like trouble on the horizon.

Kinda makes me wonder if this is not only beauty in nature, but mother nature's way of saying that she is burning mad at us for all the stuff we send into the air.

Actually? Made me think of the gemstone known as "Tiger Eye". Beautiful marbled golds and browns and oranges. I remember seeing similar sunsets growing up in *koff koff!* Los Angeles.

Honestly, Carmi I believe that West Virginia has an equal amount of pollution if not more than London. We have the highest cancer and asthma rates in the whole country and its gotta be caused by something.
I used to live in Los Angeles, and from time to time would escape north to Santa Barbara for a weekend getaway. Well, when I would have to drive south home again, I'd reach the top of the ridge overlooking the San Fernando Valley, where I lived at the time, and I could see a huge, thick layer of brown air resting on the valley floor.
I would literally experience a moment of panic. It was normally in the 80's to 90's Farenheit, I didn't have air conditioning in my car, but I'd roll up the windows. But, nanoseconds later I'd be gripped by the thought that I would eventually have to open my car door to get out and go about my life.
Is it that bad in London, Carmi? I know this all sounds like a childish, "And you think you have it bad" statement, but I really wonder if it really is that bad there.

It made me think of a particular brush that I use in Photoshop. The clouds almost look like handwriting in the sky.
Yup, I was with the forest fire people.
Here in Southern California we get the same effect. Natural basin and all that stuff. The most beautiful are when we have raging forest fires. Polluted air equalling great sunsets, that makes me a little depressed.
